AMILY SPOTLIGHT Goldberg W hen Dr. Mark and Miriam Goldberg moved to West Bloomfield 15 years ago, they were impressed with the number of young Jewish families, the sidewalks and the park-like atmosphere of their Maple Woods North neighbor- hood. They felt it was an ideal environment in which to raise their children, Joshua and Ilana, who are now 23 and 18. "Our children have truly grown up here," said Miriam, who is a dental hygienist in West Bloomfield and a "professional volunteer" for a number of Jewish organizations, which include Detroit Friends of Alyn Hospital, the Sinai Guild and Hadassah. "They always had friends to play with, and they always felt safe. It was a wonder- ful move for us." Miriam enjoys walking early each morning with a group of neighborhood friends. Mark, who is a cardiologist in Farmington Hills, walks in the evenings after work. "We love the proximity to everything," Miriam said. "We are within walking distance of a number of synagogues, and we enjoy the atmosphere during Shabbat and the holidays." The Goldbergs have many Jewish affiliations within the com- munity; including Congregation Shaarey Zedek, Congregation Ohel Moed of Shomrey Emunah, Ohr Somayach, Kollel Institute and the Jewish Genealogical Society. Everyone in our family has enjoyed using this facili- ty from the time the kids were little, through high school and into college. There's always a computer available. It was nice before the renovation, but now it's really wonderful."
