years ago, in 1994 ... with 102 people
taking a boat ride on Lake St. Clair.
The event raised $8,800.
This year, 10 fund-raisers later, 340
folks attended the Night of Good
Taste by the Oakland Region of
Karmanos Cancer Institute ... at the
Radisson Kingsley Hotel ... with food
by Matt Prentice's Northern Lakes
Seafood Co. Over $57,000 was
raised.
The yearly affairs have gotten so
popular that next year they become
an even more integral part of the
Karmanos fund-raising programs.
Over the years, the work of
unsung heroes" of these projects, put
on by the Oakland Region of
Karmanos, has vaulted them into an
annually-awaited event.
Guys and gals like Michael Fenberg
and Chad Weinbaum, working on
sponsorships ... Sandy Matthews and

tor, hard-working overall coordinator
... Deanna Weisman and Sydrena
Epstein, this year's co-chairpersons ...
and others.

... Sandy, three years, and Chad, two
years, are "new" recruits.
NEXT IN THE series of kosher
buffets by caterer Jeffrey Rosenberg is

style scrod, fried rice, white rice and a
lot more.
MAIL DEPT. ... From Gail Shapiro
in Laguna Hills, Calif. ... "The deli-
catessens here in Orange County cer-
tainly leave a lot to be desired when
compared to what is in the Metro
Detroit area. But there are some really
nice dinner spots, though.
"In Laguna Beach, the 220 Forest is
my favorite. It's not on the ocean, but
a great scene, excellent food and one
of the hot spots in town. Reservations
are accepted. For people-watching,
tell your readers to ask for the street
patio."
CONGRATS ... To Elaine and
Earle Mostyn ... on their 44th
anniversary.
GOOD WAITRESS Dept. ... Tracy

KORN KORNER ... From Jim
Berk ... A blonde is terribly over-
weight, so her doctor put her on a
diet. "I want you to eat regularly for
two days, then skip a day. Repeat this
procedure for two weeks. The next
time I see you, you'll have lost at least
five pounds."
When the blonde returned, she
shocked the doctor by having lost
nearly 20 pounds. "Why, that's amaz-
ing!" the doctor said. "Did you follow
my instructions?"
The blonde nodded, "I'll tell you
though, I thought I was going to drop
dead that third day."
"From hunger, you mean?" asked
the doctor.
"No, from skipping."
OLDIE BUT GOODIE Dept. ...
Mr. Smith goes to the doctor's office
to get his wife's test results. The lab
tech says to him, "I'm sorry, sir, there
has been a bit of a mix-up and we
have a problem. When we sent the
samples from your wife to the lab, the
samples from another Mrs. Smith were
sent as well and we are not certain
which one is your wife's. Frankly, it is
either bad or terrible!"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, one Mrs. Smith has tested
positive for Alzheimer's and the other
Mrs. Smith has tested positive for
AIDS. We can't tell which is your
wife."
"That's terrible! Can we do the test
over?"
"Normally, yes. But you have an
HMO, and they won't pay for these
expensive tests more than once."
"Well, what am I supposed to do
now?"
"The HMO recommends that you
drop your wife off in the middle of
town. If she finds her way home, don't
sleep with her." El
