articipants who had planned to
partake in the Shul-Chabad
Lubavitch-sponsored charity
golf outing on Sept. 11, 2001 instead
found themselves watching in horror
as the terror attacks of the day unfold-
ed on television.
"That day the group decided they
needed to do something as a commu-
nity to react to what had just hap-
pened," said Shua Rosenstein, the
Shul project coordinator, along with
Rabbi Yudi Mann. "They decided to
have a Torah written in memory of the
victims."
The Torah — commissioned on that
day with a call to a scribe in Israel —
will be completed in a community-
wide ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Thursday,
Sept. 11, at the Jewish Community
Center in West Bloomfield.
"After it is completed and dedicated
to the victims of 9-11, it will be part
of a- procession — a memorial march
— with people taking turns carrying
the Torah to the Shul, a 15-20 minute
walk away," Rosenstein said.
A shuttle service will be available to
return participants to the JCC follow-
ing the march.
The Torah's cost was underwritten
by Jack and Charline Wolfe, Elliot and
Denise Baum, Howard and Robin
Schwartz and Sam and Arlene
Blumenstein, all of West Bloomfield,
