Lecture's Theme
Possession, Prophecy

"Good Spirits/Evil Spirits:
Possession and Prophecy in Early
Modern Judaism," a lecture by
Professor Matt Goldish, will take
place 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at the
Janice Charach Epstein Gallery,
West Bloomfield.
The presentation is Part 1 of the
Cohn-Haddow Center for Judaic
Studies' Wayne State Authors Series
2003-04. It is co-sponsored by the
Wayne State University Press.
Professor Goldish is a specialist at
Ohio State University in Jewish and
European history, with an interest in
messianism and millenarianism.
The lecture is free, but reserva-
tions are required. Call the Cohn-

Yad Ezra Names
Contest Winners

Yad Ezra recently sponsored a city-
wide greeting card contest for chil-
dren ages 5-15. Judges Ann Faigin,
David Lepsetz and Bob Siegel chose
the winning entries in the different
age categories. Margot Gardin,
Masha Shulkin, Daniel Zacks and
Leah Zerbib created the winning
drawings this year.
The cards have been reprinted and
are available for purchase in assorted
packages of eight cards for $25. The
colorful designs depict various sym-
bols of the holiday. Orders must be
received by Friday, Sept. 19. Call

Seeds Of Peace
To Honor Peres

Shimon Peres, former Israeli prime
minister, will speak at the third annual
banquet of Seeds of Peace-Detroit on
Dec. 8 at the Ritz-Carleton Dearborn.
He will receive the Peacemaker Award.
Peres is among the founders of_
Israel's Labor Party and served as
prime minister 1984-86 and 1995-96.
Until last February's election, he was
foreign minister. In 1994, he shared
the Nobel Peace Prize with Palestinian
leader Yasser Arafat and then Israeli
Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.
