NCJW DELIVERS SCHOOL
SUPPLIES TO FERNDALE
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

raphing calculators, CD-ROM dic-
tionaries and just the right brand of
khakis — in 2003, back-to-school
shopping lists in some local school
districts are more elaborate than ever before.
But, with more than one child in school, just
buying the basics can tax the average family's
budget.
The National Council of Jewish Women
Greater Detroit Section has found a way to
lighten the financial burden for one local com-
munity.
On Aug. 27, NCJW members made their
annual delivery of backpacks to Wilson
Elementary School in Ferndale, which serves the
district's third- and fourth-graders. Each student
received a supply of crayons, rulers, pencils,
pens, glue sticks, erasers, spiral notebooks, corn-
position notebooks, scissors, felt pens and more
— enough loot to fill a sturdy transparent back-
pack to the brim.
Now if only somebody would subsidize a year's
supply of pizza. O
