French Kids Attend
Jewish Schools
Paris/JTA — The number of children
attending Jewish schools in France
rose for the fourth successive year.
According to the country's umbrella
Jewish welfare and education organiza-
tion, the United Jewish Social Funds,
the percentage of student in Jewish
schools increased by 3 percent this year.
About 30,000 students attend these
schools, the majority of which are
licensed by the state and follow the
national curriculum.
Holocaust Survivor,
Chronicler Dies
New York/JTA — Jack Eisner, a
Holocaust survivor who made tens of
millions of dollars and then told the
world about his wartime experiences,
died Aug. 24 at 77.
Eisner, who made his money in the
import-export business, helped found sev-
eral Holocaust remembrance organiza-
tions and wrote an autobiography, The
Survivor, which was made into a play and
a movie.
