are hosting the 25th
anniversary International
Jewish Men's Slo-Pitch
Softball Tournament this weekend.
Fourteen teams from the United
States and Canada will play at Drake
Sports Park and Community Sports
Park in West Bloomfield.
Eleven teams will come from
Montreal, Toronto, Hamilton,
Winnipeg, Minneapolis and Chicago.
Two of the three Detroit teams, the
Motor City Hit Men and the Detroit
Bashers, play in the B'nai B'rith
Sunday morning softball league.
The Motor City Hit Men, who play
for Bloch Lodge on Sunday mornings,
are the defending international tour-
nament champions. The Detroit
Bashers are a combination of two
Brotherhood Lodge teams.
Started by the B'nai B'rith of
Toronto in 1979 as a tournament for
its house leagues, Detroit B'nai B'rith
softball teams began participating in
1984.
Several Canadian softball rules
remain, including pitches with an
unlimited arc. Any pitch that has an
arc of at least six feet and strikes a five-
foot-long mat covering home plate is a.
strike.
The highlight of the weekend is a
Sunday banquet at the Sheraton
Detroit-Novi. Ken Daniels, Red
Wings announcer for Fox Sports, will
speak.

Saturday and Sunday, with the cham-
