Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Participating in the ceremony will be
parents Jan and Jon Frank and brothers
Charlie and Matthew. Proud grandpar-
ents are Esther and Harvey Frank,
Suzanne and V. Lester Goldstein. Proud
great-grandmother is Sylvia Globe.
Andrew is a student at Bloomfield
Hills Middle School. His mitzvah proj-
ects include preparing Passover baskets
for Yad Ezra in Berkley and serving as a
counselor at Shaarey Zedek's Camp
Betman.

Bradley Jason Hantler, son of Saree and
Steve Hander, will be called to the Torah
as a bar mitzvah at Adat Shalom
Synagogue Saturday,
Aug. 30. He is the
younger brother of
Scott and the
grandson of Ida
Goldenberg and the
late Rubin
Goldenberg, Frieda
Hander and the late
David Hantler.
Brad is an honor
student at Warner Middle School in
Farmington Hills. In preparation for his
bar mitzvah, he participated in Adat
Shalom's 13 Mitzvot program, which
required completion of 13 learning and
doing activities. He also volunteers at the
synagogue's Housing the Homeless proj-
ect and at Yad Ezra in Berkley.

Brandon Joshua Kappy will be called to
the Torah as a bar mitzvah Saturday,
Aug. 30, at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Participating in the service will be his
proud parents, Barbara and Irvin, and
sister Michelle.
Brandon is honored
to have his grandpar-
ents Max Fischel and
Viola and Garry
Kappy sharing in the
simchah. He is also
the grandson of the
late Sophie Fischel.
Brandon is an
honor student at
Hillel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit in Farmington Hills. He volun-
teered at the Jewish Community Center
Fame Games, Fall Fix-Up with Jewish
Family Service, Yad Ezra in Berkley and
the Dor L'Dor and JARC programs
through Hillel.

Alexandra Chelsea Kavieff will be called
to the Torah as a bat mitzvah on
Saturday, Aug. 30, at Temple Shir
Shalom. Her proud family includes her

Alex attends
Orchard Lake
Middle School in
West Bloomfield,
where she is an
honor student. Her mitzvah projects
included a letter writing campaign to
raise money for cancer awareness and
prevention, and she worked as a team
member at the Relay for Life fund-raiser
at West Bloomfield High School.

Emily Caroline Knoll will be called to
the Torah as a bat mitzvah on Saturday,
Aug. 30, at Congregation. Shaarey Zedek
Southfield. She is the daughter of Jay and
Mary Knoll and sister of Allison, Sarah
and Joshua. Proud grandparents are
Richard Knoll and
Maureen Fill and
Judge Steven and
Elisabeth Andrews.
She is also the grand-
daughter of the late
Craina Knoll.
Emily is an honor
student at Berkshire
Middle School in
Beverly Hills. Her
bat mitzvah projects include making
bears for Israeli children, volunteering at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek and sup-
porting the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

Jared Sam Pickman will celebrate his bar
mitzvah at Temple Israel on Saturday,
Aug. 30, when he is called to the bimah
to read from the Torah. His is the son of
Lynne and Michael
Pickman and broth-
er of Jenna. His
grandparents are
Lenore Pickman and
Rhoda Scott. He is
also the grandchild
of the late Sam
Pickman and the late
Carl Scott.
Jared is an honor student at Norup
Middle School in Oak Park. As part of
his mitzvah project, he was able to work
one-on-one with a JARC resident, teach-
ing him computer skills; his plan is to
continue the instruction.

Esther Miriam-Batya Rubyan will be
called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah on
Saturday, Aug. 30, at Congregation Beth
Ahm. She is the daughter of Deborah
Rubyan and Ara Rubyan and sister of
