Middle School. The mitzvah project
he found most interesting was visiting
seniors at the Meer Nursing Facility
in West Bloomfield.

Rachel Lauren Goutman will be
called to the Torah
as a bat mitzvah on
Saturday, Aug. 23,
at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek
Southfield. She is
the daughter of Ida
and Lou Goutman
and sister of
Stephen and Julie.
She is a fourth-gen-
eration member of the congregation,
where both her brother and sister
were b'nai mitzvah. Proud grandpar-
ents are Marion and Dr. Sidney Z.
Leib of Boca Raton, Fla., and Pearl
Goutman of West Bloomfield. She is
also the granddaughter of the late
Emanuel Goutman.
Rachel is an eight-grade honor stu-
dent at Orchard Lake Middle School
in West Bloomfield. She has been
involved in many mitzvah projects,
including Shaarey Zedek's Camp
Betman, the congregation Purim car-
nival, Yad Ezra in Berkley and the
Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon.

included preparing lunches at the
South Oakland Shelter and volunteer-
ing to work with young children at
the Birmingham Bloomfield Art
Center, during their summer camp
program.

vah Saturday, Aug.
23, at Temple
Israel. He is the
brother of Matthew
and the grandchild
of Shirley and Dr.

Sarah and Joel

Alex is an honor
student at Walnut Creek Middle
School in Walled Lake. The mitzvah
project he found most meaningful
involved collecting and donating
books to LeBaron Elementary School
in Pontiac and then reading books to
the children.

Evan Gabriel Scapelliti, son of Amy
and Stephen Scapelliti and brother of
Jonah, will celebrate his bar mitzvah
at Temple Israel on
Saturday, Aug. 23.
His grandparents
are Bernadene

and Florine and
John Scapelliti. He
is also the grand-
