Feldstein: listener, counselor.

John Gibson, executive vice president,
GMAC North American Operations,
worked with Feldstein "on several proj-
ects during his last tour of duty at
GMAC. He is a solid business executive
with an incredible talent for listening
and his advice and counsel made a sig-
nificant impact on our business opera-
tions."
"Business is good," Feldstein told
shareholders at the beginning of this
year. He targeted 2003 earnings for
financing, mortgage and insurance at
$1.7-1.9 billion. He based that estimate
on GMAC's net income of $1.87 bil-
lion in 2002, making it the division's
eighth consecutive year of earnings
growth.
"With increased consumer confi-
dence, I think we'll hit the upper end of
that range for 2003," said Feldstein.
However, the challenge is formidable.
Both GM and GMAC had their credit
downgraded in 2002 by Standard &
Poor's to a "BBB" rating. The division is
operating with the largest GMAC bal-
ance sheet and the lowest GMAC credit
rating on record — all during a difficult
capital market environment.
But Feldstein has the total support of
his superiors. Said John Devine, GM
vice chairman and chief financial offi-
cer: As GM's treasurer and vice presi-
dent for finance, Eric was instrumental
in bringing innovative and disciplined
practices to the finance group. He faced
a number of challenges with great suc-
cess. "
Feldstein is married to the former
Miriam Kaufman of Chicago. They
have three children: Jennifer, 15, Max,
11, and Sam, 7.
He is the son of Dr. Donald and
Shirley Feldstein. Donald was executive
director of the national Council of
Jewish Federations and the American
Jewish Committee, and the senior
Feldsteins are neighbors in Teaneck,
N.J., of former Jewish News Editor Gary
Rosenblatt.
