elcome to our annual "Voices" special section,
part of our continuing commitment to examine
the many facets of education in our community.
In previous years, we've focused on education in local
Jewish day and supplementary schools and on educational
opportunities for southeast Michigan's Jewish college stu-
dents and adults. This year, we turn to public education
and the Jewish educators and administrators who safeguard
and uplift that public institution.
Jewish News Education Reporter Diana Lieberman inter-
viewed a cross section of Jewish professionals, including a
preschool administrator, a special-education supevisor and
two school superintendents, to tap into their insiders' views
of what's working and what isn't — at least from their side
of the fence.
Their insights provide food for thought as our children
head off soon to their first day of school.
