Hospital 'Cleans'
HIV-Infected Sperm
Haifa/JTA — An Israeli hospital is
birthing healthy babies with the
sperm of HIV-infected men. The
Rambam Medical Center in Haifa is
using an innovative system that
"cleans" the sperm of HIV before
injecting it into the wombs of the
men's wives.
According to Rambam hospital,
600 healthy children already have
been born to couples where the hus-
band had HIV. The process is report-
edly not yet authorized in the United
States.

The attack in Rosh Ha'ayin, in which
13 people were wounded, occurred
around 9 a.m. at a supermarket check-
out counter. The blast ripped off the
entrances of the Nu-Pharm pharmacy
and the Hatzi Kupa supermarket in the
Rosh Ha'ayin shopping mall. Police said
the suicide bomber simply bypassed the
guard at the supermarket entrance.
Less than an hour later after the first
blast, another explosion took place at a
hitchhiking station near the West Bank
city of Ariel, killing Hershkovitz, who
was from the Israeli settlement of Elon
Moreh. Three people were wounded in
that attack.
The suicide bomber in Rosh Ha'ayin
was identified as Khamis Jur'an, 17, of
Nablus. The Ariel bomber was identified
as Yusuf Kapisha, 21, also of Nablus.
Israel views the cease-fire as an inter-
nal Palestinian affair that does not bind
Israel. It says the terrorist groups are
using the cease-fire to rearm and
demands that the Palestinian Authority
fulfill its commitment to dismantle the
groups. Abbas has said he will not con-
front the terrorists for fear of igniting a
Palestinian civil war.
