Contributions may be made to a char- ity of one's choice. HADASSAH YANICH PLAUT, 82, former Detroiter. She had been the executive director of the Center for Jewish History in Manhattan. A pas- sionate Zionist, Mrs. Plaut was an active member of HaShomer HaTza'eer as a teen. She and her hus- band, Rabbi Walter H. Plaut, served as the first directors of Camp Herzl in Webster, Wis., the first Zionist camp in the United States. The Plauts lived in Israel from 1950-1952, moving then to Cedar Rapids. From 1956- 1967, the family lived in Great Neck, N.Y., where Rabbi Plaut served Temple Emanuel. In 1967, Mrs. Plaut, recently widowed, made aliyah to Jerusalem, but returned to the United States in 1997. Mrs. Plaut is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Yehudah and Aviva, Carmi and Beth; grandchildren, Ma'ayan, Ben and Jonas; brother, Joseph Yanich.
