PART OF US
he Jewish News is more than a source of news
and information pertinent to the Detroit
Jewish community. It's also a communal
teacher and a convenient way to learn about the
many threads that make up the fabric of who we are
as a community.
Take this week's cover story by Staff Writer Shelli
Liebman Dorfman on the metro Detroit Kollel, a
rich repository of Jewish knowledge and thinking,
but little known outside Orthodox circles.
Our intent is not to put the Kollel on a public
pedestal, which would conflict with its mission of
humility. Rather, our wish is to provide a window
into this holy house of study, something we all can be
proud of and inspired by, however Torah observant
we are individually.
Our coverage, which begins on page 54, is another
example of the varied threads that, when stitched
together, make Detroit such a vibrant, engaging place
to be Jewish.
