Q: My four-year old son asked why his grand-
father couldn't be buried on his property in
Northern Michigan, his favorite place. I think
I answered him correctly, but please respond.

A:

Historically, until the early I800's, people
often were buried on their own property. However,
plagues made burial on private property impracticaL
Later, the thought of buying a home on a site where
people were interred made everyone uncomfortable,
so this practice no longer occurs.
