From early June through the end of August, Camp Michigania plays host to more than 1,000 alumni and their families, according to Mitch Rosenwasser, director of the not-for-profit camp. In addi- tion, the camp offers retreats and educational seminars throughout the fall, winter and spring. From typical "camp" activi- ties like archery, horseback rid- ing, canoeing and the like, to educational seminars and other intellectual pursuits, the camp offers 11 one-week sessions throughout the summertime. In late August, the alumni associa- tion operates a couple of one- week camp sessions at Camp Michigania-East located in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. Registration guidelines, according to the camp's Web site, state that at least one member of each family attending must be a current member of the University of Michigan Alumni Association. Registration is based on a first-come basis. Accommodations include cab- ins with one or two bedrooms and a bathroom. According to Rosenwasser, living facilities have improved markedly in the last couple of years, and the "roughing it" of years past has been replaced by more "com- fortable" lodging.
