The broadcast will feature OU Executive Vice President Rabbi Dr. Tzvi Hersh Weinreb in the sanctuary of Congregation Shomrei Emunah in Baltimore. He will speak on the meaning of a selection of the kinot to be recited that morning. Sitting on the floor of the sanctuary, in one of traditional signs of mourning, the rabbi will provide in-depth introductions to the elegies prior to their recitation by congregants. The second annual Webcast is intended for those unable to spend the entire morning in synagogue, including those who may log on in their offices. The four-hour-long program will begin at 9:15 a.m. on the OU Web site, which may be accessed at: www.ou.org For information, contact Rabbi Mayer Waxman at the OU, at (212) 613-8285. Fri. till 6 one of the two evening services held over the course of the day — Beth Ahm on Wednesday, Aug. 6, and B'nai Moshe that Thursday. Morning services on Thursday will be held separately in each synagogue. On Tisha b'Av, changes to the usual daily services are made. While tallit and tefillin are typically worn during Shacharit (morning services), on Tisha b'Av they are not. "The practice of not wearing [them] is a sign of intense mourning," Rabbi Pachter said. "At Minchah [afternoon services], we nevertheless fulfill the obligation to observe these daily mitzvot as well as recognize our ability for spiritual recovery even in the face of tragedy. Somewhat analogous is the relationship between a mourner prior to the funeral and after the funeral." Some additions and omissions are made to the morning service, with the "Shir Shel Yom" prayer, normally said in the morning, moved to the afternoon service. During the joint services, members of both B'nai Moshe and Beth Ahm will chant from the Book of Eichah (Lamentations). They will also recite selected creative readings, which Rabbi Pachter said "are taken from a wide range of sources — from the Bible to modern poetry — and relate to the prayers and the chapters of Eichah." Said Rabbi Popky, "We are happy doing this together. On a personal level, we each get to work with a friend — but in general, we've found people like working together within the community." 0 -888-920-54117 ADMIRAL OPTICAL- known for its prices & service $59 FRAME $99 FRAME & Single Vision LASTIC LENSES* & Progressive no-line bifocal. * Limited time offer.
