JACOB Project
Sets Golf Outing

The JACOB (Jewish And Chaldean
Opportunity Builders) golf outing will be
held Monday, Sept. 8, at Shenandoah
Country Club, West Bloomfield. It will
be a four-person scramble, consisting of
two Jewish and two Chaldean golfers.
Registration and a continental breakfast
start at 8 a.m. The shotgun start is 9 a.m.
A cocktail hour will begin at 2 p.m. fol-
lowed by a presentation by clergy; buffet
lunch and awards will begin at 3 p.m.
Cost is $25 for lunch only or $100 for
golf and lunch. Holes may be sponsored
for $200. One can be an event sponsor
for $2,000.

The JACOB project started between
Temple Israel and the Chaldean families
at Shenandoah three years ago. In June,
JACOB brought Jewish and Chaldean
youth together for the third annual
rebuilding-of-Detroit-homes project.

Proceeds will go to JACOB youth pro-
grams. JACOB is seen as a way to con-
nect Jewish and Chaldean youth in a
variety of settings and allow them to learn
more about their similarities and to dispel

Tuesday, Sept. 9,
6 p.m. at the syn-
agogue in Southfield.
Hilary Isakow, dinner chair, said the
Rosenthals will receive the State of Israel
Declaration of Independence Award.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel's finance
minister, will be keynote speaker.
Longtime Israel Bonds supporters, the
Rosenthals co-chaired the Shaarey Zedek
Israel Bonds Dinner honoring Lawrence
Jackier in 1995.
Marta is the granddaughter of the late
Cantor Jacob Sonenklar of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek, the first Shaarey Zedek
Israel Bonds honoree in 1968. She is part
of the synagogue's professional choir. She
is Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit campaign co-chair for 2003-
2005. She has been a national and local
leader for National Council of Jewish
Women.
Beris service to the Jewish Federation
includes chair of Michigan Miracle
Mission III in 1999 and the Zuckerman
Campaign Leadership Council, 1995 to
2003.

The InLine Hockey Center at the Jewish
Community Center in West Bloomfield
will take registrations for the fall 2003
season Aug. 4-Sept. 8. The IHC offers
house and open leagues for children and
adults, as well as classes for all ages.
Classes begin Sept. 8 and league play
begins Sept. 14
Classes include learn to skate, child
beginner skating, youth and adult hock-
ey clinics and goalie school. New is a
Mini-Mite Division House League, for
5 and 6 year olds.
The IHC provides year-round leagues,

Jascha Gelman Fund IHC Opens
Holds Golf Outing
Fall Signup

The Jascha Gelman Memorial Fund will
conduct its annual golf outing to benefit
the fund Monday, Aug. 25, at the Links
of Pinewood in Commerce Township.
Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Oakland
County Executive L. Brooks Patterson
will be honorary chairs. Patterson also
will act as program emcee. The event will
begin with a buffet lunch at 11 a.m. The
shotgun start to the golf outing will be at
12:30 p.m. There will be an open bar
from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; dinner will be
served at 6:30 p.m.
The cost of lunch, golf, dinner and
cocktails is $200 per person. Dinner and
cocktails are open to non-golfers at $100
per person. Hole sponsorships are $300
