teenagers and staff, encouraging them
to find their own Jewish identity and
learn about their Jewish values and
how they feel about their Judaism,
whether it's about how they feel about
Israel, keeping kosher, Jewish prac-
tices, morals. Camp is the perfect lab-
oratory for that."
"The amount of time kids spend
with us here in a consecutive period of
time is more than they actually spend
in school or at home," said Geller,
whose wife and baby son are also
spending the summer at camp. "Once
they come, they're eager to grow and
be challenged whether it's on the ropes
course or horseback riding, canoeing
or Jewish programming."
Ronald Sollish, president Fresh Air
Society, is enthusiastic about the
choice.
"We felt we had one of the premier
agencies in the country as far as the
experience we provide to children, our
stature in the Jewish communal
camping community," Sollish said.
"We wanted to find an executive
who matched essentially the promi-
nence and the quality that we felt the
agency offered. We are convinced that
we really have a star."

TEE ISSUE

When the Palestinian and Israeli
prime ministers visited President
George W. Bush at the White
House recently, much attention
was focused on the relationship
between the leaders and the
administration's continuing role in
the renewed Middle East peace
process. Just down the road at the
Capitol, though, the House of
Representatives had only a few
days earlier sent its own strong
message.

MIMID THE ISSUE

The House voted overwhelmingly
on July 23 to approve the 2004
foreign aid appropriations bill,
which includes $2.64 billion in
economic and military aid to
Israel. All members of Michigan's
House delegation save one, Rep.
Nick Smith, R-Jackson, voted for
the bill.
