Q : After sitting shiva for my mother,
VC had so much food left over, it seemed

a waste to throw it away. I was told you

cannot take food from a house of shiva.

Is there an alternative?

A:

I'm often called by families asking
what to do with excess food and baskets.
I contact many area shelters that really
appreciate these donations. The family is
pleased it goes to those in need and we
consider it a wonderful mitzvah.

ARTHUR SKLAR, 75, of West
Bloomfield, died July 21, 2003. He
was a pharmacist in Brighton, a
World War II Navy veteran and was
in the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Mr. Sklar is survived by his wife of
53 years, Sonia Sklar; sons and
daughters-in-law, Lyle Sklar of
Florida, Keith and Gail Sklar of
Illinois, Eric and Carrie Sklar of
Northville; daughter and son-in-law,
Elissa Klar and Fred Pearlman of
White Lake; grandchildren, Jennifer,

THEODORE WEBERMAN, 81,

formerly of Livonia of Margate, Fla.,
died July 9, 2003. He was a veteran
of World War II.
Mr. Weberman is survived by his

Bloomfield, died July 17, 2003. She
was the last of 10 children. Mrs.
Weinbaum was a founding member of
Adat Shalom Synagogue. She was also
an active sisterhood member, partici-
pating in the choir, managing the gift
shop and hosting many events at her
home.
In addition, she belonged to B'nai
B'rith Pisgah Lodge and was a champi-
on bowler with trophies to prove it.
She was active in local
elections and often
worked at the polls.
Her many interests
included travel,
spending time in
Israel, France and
Italy. She also enjoyed
visiting with family

across the United
States, in Montreal and
in Manitoba.
She is survived by her daughters and
son-in-law, Roslyn Katzman of
Farmington Hills, Sheila and Ronald
Schechter of Bloomfield Hills; grand-
children, Ronna Katzman, Cheri
Berlin, Gayle (Gary) Samuels, Marla
(Dr. Bruce) Schechner, Dr. Steven
Schechter; great-grandchildren,
William and Danielle Bluford, Robyn
and Leslee Berlin, Evan and Seth

She was the beloved wife of the late
Daniel Weinbaum; mother-in-law of
the late Manny Katzman.
