A
Los Angeles-based rabbinic
scholar will give several lectures,
including a lunch-and-learn pro-
gram at the Jewish News, during a two-
day visit to metro Detroit in August.
Rabbi Boruch Yehudah Gradon —
founder and dean of Maor, an outreach
program aimed principally at Israelis, and
also the spiritual counselor for the Los
Angeles Lakewood Kollel — will deliver
two lunch-and-learn programs and two
major addresses. The Southfield-based
Yeshiva Beth Yehudah Partners in Torah
program is sponsoring the rabbi's visit.
Rabbi Gradon is a London native
who attended the Gateshead Yeshiva
there and the Beth
Medrash Gavoha in
Lakewood, NJ, where he
studied for seven years
under the late Rabbi
Shneur Kotler. His family
moved to L.A. in 1982.
The first lunch and
Gradon
learn will be Monday,
Aug. 4, 12:15-1:15 p.m., at the Jewish
News, Suite 110, 29200 Northwestern
Highway at Franklin Road, Southfield.
The topic will be "Why Is Israel
Always In the News?"
"The lunchtime spiritual repast not
only should be uplifting, but also
informative as we Americans alternate-
ly shudder and feel pride when the
news media spotlight Israel," said JN
Editor Robert A. Sklar.
Monday evening, Aug. 4, at 8:15
p.m. in the Sally Allen Alexancder Bais
Yaacov Auditorium at Church and 10
Mile in Oak Park, Rabbi Gradon will
address "Hatred Among Jews, An Old
Problem — A New Approach."
Tuesday, Aug. 5, at noon, Machon
L'Torah-Jewish Learning Network of
Michigan and Partners in Torah will co-
sponsor a Rabbi Gradon-led lunch and
learn at the law offices of Honigman
Miller Schwartz and Cohn in Detroit.
The topic: "Is Judaism A Religion?"
At Yeshiva Beth Yehudah's Tuesday
night Partners in Torah learning pro-
gram, the rabbi will answer: "It Is
2003 So Why Are We Still Mourning
the Temples?" His visit occurs during
the holiday week of Tisha b'Av and the
nine-day mourning period where the
Jewish people mourn the destruction
of the Holy Temples in Jerusalem.

events, call Rabbi Avraham Cohen,
