The first-place Rockower Award for Excellence in News Reporting was pre- sented to the JNstaff at the American Jewish Press Association convention July 3 in, Los Angeles. JN Publisher Arthur Horwitz and Editor Robert Sklar were on hand to accept the award. "I don't know how we did it, but we managed to put out a pretty good paper the week of the fire — literally starting from scratch," Sklar said. Sklar also took home a third-place Rockower Award for Excellence in Editorial Writing for his Nov. 15, 2002, editorial promoting dialogue among Judaism's divergent streams.
