Dr. Gruber is a transplant surgeon heading Detroit Medical Center-Harper University Hospital's transplant program and is a professor at Wayne State University. Since 2001, he has doubled the number of kidney transplants done by the Harper transplant team and has received a certificate of need to begin doing pancreas trans- plants. He's an integral part of the hospital's drive to create a state-of-the-art transplant center. To his patients, the Orthodox doctor is an angel, willing to wake from a deep sleep whenever a donated organ is available — even on Shabbat.
