GOING OUT OF BUSINESS BAZAAR ORIENTAL RUGS Arab, Jewish Friends Set Annual Dinner The American Arab and Jewish Friends will host its annual dinner 4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at Il Posto in Southfield. Each year, AAJF presents a Community Service Award to outstanding leaders in the Arab and Jewish communities who work to build positive relations and inclusivity among people. The recipients of the 2003 awards are Ahmad Chebbani, president of Omnex Accounting and president of the Arab American Chamber of Commerce, and U.S. Rep. Sander Levin, D-Royal Oak. The AAJF dinner also raises funds for an essay contest for high school juniors and seniors of Arab, Chaldean or Jewish descent. The students are randomly teamed in cross-cultural groupings. They participate in a cultural sharing day, and experience each other's lives by visiting each other's homes, neighborhoods or places of worship. Each team then writes an essay about "The Ties That Bind" their communi- ties. The winners of this year's essay contest will be recognized at the dinner. Students Inna Neyman of West Bloomfield, Amani Salami of Dearborn and Kristina El-Chemor of Hazel Park received the 2003 first-place team award. Event co-chairs are Tarik Daoud of Bloomfield Hills and Jeff Kahn of West Bloomfield. The American Arab and Jewish Friends is a program of NCCJ (the National Conference for Community and Justice).
