riendship is not only a foundation for life,
but also great for business. Larry Kaufman
and Jeff Van Loon, 32, the owners of
Brooklyn Bagel in Bloomfield Hills, have
been friends since the fourth grade. The two men col-
laborated, outside other work obligations, to realize
their longtime dream of starting a business. Now they
take turns on the 4 a.m. shift, kneading and shaping
bagel dough.
"I have always wanted a business and was excited
when Jeff told me about the idea,"
says Kaufman, who is presently
a mechanical engineer for
Ford Motor Company.
Van Loon, a second-year
Wayne State law student,
once owned an office fur-
niture company and was
looking for the right
opportunity to try
entrepreneurship again.
