College students may apply for interest-
free loans for the 2003-2004 school year
through the Sarah and Harold Gottlieb
Jewish Educational Loan Service pro-
gram (JELS).
Administered through Southfield-
based JVS, Hebrew Free Loan
Association and the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit, the program is
available to Detroit area Jewish residents.
To be considered, applicants must be
full-time student pursuing an under-
graduate, graduate or professional educa-
tion; be able to document financial
need; attend a Michigan eucational insti-
tution unless a comparable education is
not available in Michigan; and demon-
strate academic progress toward a career
objective.
In addition to loans, JVS provides
counseling to parents and students inter-
ested in other financial aid options avail-
able through state, federal and private

Dan Gilbert of Franklin has been elect-
ed president of the board of directors of
Farmington Hills-based JARC.
Gilbert, chairman of Quicken Loans
Inc. , was elected to the JARC board in
1997. He also serves on the board of
the National Neurofibromatosis
Foundation Inc. in New York City.
Gilbert was recently named to the
Junior Achievement Southeastern
Michigan Business Hall of Fame.
Also elected at the JARC annual
meeting were vice presidents Joanne
Aronovitz, Carol Kaczander and Robert
Nusbaum; secretary, Bobbie Miller; and
treasurer, Eli Scherr.
JARC board members elected for a
second three-year term were Jeff Cohen,
Otto Dube, Ron Hodess, Lenny
Hutton, Barbara Jonas, Dan Medow
and Beth Kroft Mondry.
Newly elected to the board were Lisa
Brown, Mindy Cherney, Steve Cicurel,
Shelley Gach, Diane Gallagher, Ed
Hersch, Howard Luckoff, Christine
Niskar, Sheryl Stoddard and Mary Topf.
H. James Zack is JARC's immediate
past president and chairperson of
JARC's Capital Campaign.
