Temple Installs
Board Of Trustees

Kommel Leads
Beth El Sisterhood

The Birmingham Temple recently
installed its new board of trustees.
Newly elected or re-elected are
Arnie D' Amore-Braver, Ernie Eick,
Berta Gardon, Mark Geoffrey, Hank
Gluckman, Carol Gorosh, Matthew
Howard, Alice McCoy, Peter Molnar,
Cathy Radner and Allan Skoropa.
Continuing on the board are Patty
Becker, Joyce Cheresh, Lyn Wagner-
Ditzhazy, Ruth Driker Kroll and
Gerald Viedrah.
The new officers of the executive
board are president, Bill Trapp; vice
presidents, Allan Daniels, Judy
Bobrow; treasurer, Jeffrey Jannett; sec-
retary, Mark Sims.

Patti Kommel was installed as president
of the Temple Beth El Sisterhood. She
has served the temple in many capaci-
ties. As sisterhood's administrative vice
president, she oversaw several fund-rais-
ing activities, including the 100th
anniversary celebration. She is proudest
of becoming an adult bat mitzvah.
Serving with Kommel as vice presi-
dents are Jill Gurwin, Denise Brown,
Renee Jablonski, Karen Lowen, Patrice
Morris Phillips and Laurie Nedelman.
Other officers include Carolyn
Greenberg, treasurer; Sandra Moss, assis-
tant treasurer; Marcy Bletstein and
Barbara Edelman, recording secretaries;
Lois Freeman, corresponding secretary.
Members of the board of directors
include Sandy Beigler, Debbie
Canvasser, Harriet Cooperman, Marsha
Girson, Karen Hull, Miriam Imerman,
Karen Kaczander, Margo Kline, Joyce
Meckler Miller, Karen Myerson, Sharon
Resnick, Marsha Rofel, Janis Warren
and Anne Weiner.
Marla Canvasser, Corinne Garvin,
Betty Schare and Jo-Ann MacWill-iams-
Wolf will serve on the 2003-2004 nomi-
nating committee.

Judiasm Class
At Temple Israel

Temple Israel will begin an 11-week
Introduction to Judaism course on
Tuesday, Sept. 23, 7:30-9:30 p.m.,
open to anyone interested in learning
more about Judaism or considering
conversion to Judaism.
The course will be taught by
Temple Israel clergy and topics will
include Jewish traditions, Jewish his-
tory, holiday celebrations, Israel and
learning to read Hebrew. Two special
Holocaust sessions will be included
with a field trip to the Holocaust
Memorial Center.

School Enrollment

Registration is open for the 2003-
2004 school year at Congregation
Beth Shalom. Parents interested in
enrolling children should return the
necessary registration and authoriza-
tion forms, available at the synagogue,
no later than Friday, Aug. 1.
Religious school for grades K-7
begins 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7; high
school begins 6 p.m. Monday, Sept.
15. Parents are invited to join students
and faculty Sunday, Sept. 7, for open-
ing services at 9 a.m.; parent orienta-
tion will follow.

Kabbalah Class
At Torah Center

The summer session of "Kabbalah
and Mysticism," taught by Rabbi
Elimelech Silberberg, will be given

Tugman Bais Chabad Torah Center,

The class, open to the public, will
begin on July 13 and continue
through August. Hebrew reading
skills are not required and beginners
are welcome.
