ALE STONE N NOW on OPEN FIRST CLASS from page 48 members of the JAMD staff handed out the diplomas to the students they knew best, giving a short speech about each student. Jackier compared the graduating class to the biblical figure of Nashon, who, according to the book of Exodus, was the first to set foot in the Red Sea when Moses parted the waters. "You are people who are willing to go into uncharted waters," Jackier said. "You were willing to believe that your educational experience would be valu- able and would properly prepare you for success in both the Jewish and secular communities." The man who parted the waters, head of school Rabbi Lee Buckman, called the 21 graduates "the first gift from the JA/VID to the community." Rabbi Buckman continually defers all praise to the JAMD board and other members of Detroit's Jewish community, who worked for 10 years before the school opened its doors in August 2000. "And now, I stand here with Kleenex in my pocket and pride in my heart," Rabbi Buckman said. ❑ 'ewelry f ine "The Boardwalk" Neale Stone • engagement rings • wedding bands • • loose diamonds earrings • bracelets • • watches • necklaces • buggies • • Nomination Jewelry • • sterling & marcasite • ...MilearAdAile. ■■•■ Nse Alliance For Jewish Education Offers 'Summertime Torah' Classes The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's Alliance for Jewish Education will present "Summertime Torah," a six-week series of courses for adults with instruc- tor Michael Weiss.
