On May 27, a multigenerational crowd of sev-
eral hundred people turned out to hear novelist
Naomi Ragen at Adat Shalom Synagogue for
an adult education event co-sponsored with
Temple Israel.

.has lived in Jerusalem for
the last 33 years. "The

responded to in kind," she emphasized to the spellbound crowd.
She says the inspiration for each of her books has been real life. As an
Orthodox Jewish woman, her books are her "bimah" for speaking out.
Ragen's latest projects include a new book, The Covenant, about a terrorist
kidnapping, due out in 2004, and a play, Women's Minyan, currently being per-
formed at Israel's National Theater.
Elaine Robins and Deanna Weisman of Adat Shalom, and Fran Pearlman

Temple Israel were the co-chairs. Among those enjoying the lecture were Susie
Pappas, Beverly Liss, Dr. Rob Robins, and Rabbis Daniel Nevins, Paul
Yedwab and Herbert Yoskowitz.

Wolfe Golf Classic

The Third Annual Jerry Wolfe Golf Classic to benefit the Barbara Ann
Karmanos Cancer Institute was held June 2 at. Franklin Hills Country Club in
Farmington Hills. The event paid tribute to the memory of Jerry Wolfe, a
devoted family man, community leader, golf enthusiast and tax partner at
PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Detroit.
"We are so lucky to have the Karmanos Cancer Institute," said Sandi Wolfe,
Jerry Wolfe' widow. "The institute has the best doctors and an extraordinarily
caring staff."
Title sponsors of the event were PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Standard
Federal. Other key sponsors included Eugene and Marcia Applebaum, Arbor
Investments Group, HoMedics, Max
