Dave Winfield
receiving the 2003
Hank Greenberg
Memorial
Achievement
Award, was a very
fitting ending to
what has to go
down as one of the
best banquet shows yet by MJSF.
IT'S USUALLY wall-to-wall people
and a waiting list on the busiest day of
the week ... But Pepino's in Walled
Lake will be closed Saturday, June 21.
The entire family will be at the mar-
riage of Nicholas Bernardi, son of Don
and Lila Bernardi ... so there'll be
nobody to watch the store ... since
Pepino's is a very staunch family-
owned-and-operated restaurant.
TOBY'S TO GO that was sup-
posed to open at Feldbros Meats
before it closed in Farmington Hills,
never did happen ... Seems that owner
Allan Feldman sort of knew he was
going to retire and shut the doors.
WHEN HE OPENS his new
restaurant ... and you can bet that he
will ... Mickey Bakst, former maitre d'
and manager of Tribute in Farmington
Hills can be looked upon to make it a
very upscale operation ... on a par or
even more top drawer than Tribute.
REUNION DEPT ... 1955 grads of
Bagley Elementary School in Detroit
have set their shindig date for Saturday,
July 26, at Peking House in Royal Oak
... For more info, call Linda Gale,
(248) 855-1191 ... or e-mail to
bagleyreunion@aol.com
TYPO, ERRATA, ETC. Dept. ...
Steve Lombardi, who recently opened
his new Aldila Cafe & Delicatessen on
Carroll Lake Road and Commerce
Road in Commerce Township ... is
not a graduate of the Culinary
Institute of America ... but says he
attended classes there and is a culinary
graduate of Schoolcraft College.
KORN KORNER ... From Gerry
Gurwin of Gurwin's Auto Body Klinic
in Detroit ... About the gal who tells of
meeting an honest automobile mechan-
ic. "He told me that there was absolute-
ly nothing the matter with my car. All
it needed was turn signal fluid."
OLDIE BUT GOODIE Dept. ...
From Avery Warnick ... 89-year-old
Bessie bursts into the recreation room
at the retirement home. She holds her
clenched fist in the air and announces,
'Anyone who can guess what's in my
hand can have sex with me tonight!"
An elderly gentleman in the rear
shouts out, "An elephant?"
Bessie thinks a minute and says,
"Close enough."
