Michigan 1313Y0 Announces Endowment Campaign

The Michigan BBYO Board of Directors announces the establishment of a new Endowment Campaign, 'The Friends of BBYO," in order to
provide additional support for programs that are not fully supported by BBYO's annual operating budget. Michigan BBYO Board members,
David Bittker and Susie Citrin, are chairing the Endowment Campaign.
"A gift to the BBYO Endowment Campaign is an insurance policy to help our young people appreciate their heritage and responsibility as
Jews and to help them fulfill their individual potential. Many leaders of the Jewish community are AZA and BBG alumni, so we know what a
positive impact the program has. I hope that everyone will consider becoming a "Friend of BBYO," said Bittker.
Michigan BBYO serves more than 1000 Jewish teens in Metro Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Windsor, Ontario,
through AZA and BBG chapters for high school youth and through Teen Connection for 7th and 8th graders.
In part, activities are supported by youth dues and fees. However, the bulk of the BBYO budget comes from
a combination of support from BBYO Inc. in Washington, the Jewish Federation of Metro Detroit, the
Michigan BBYO Board of Directors, and B'nai B'rith Great Lakes Region.
Contributions to "The Friends of BBYO" will help support these programs:
♦ Scholarships for summer leadership and Israel programs ♦ Leadership training and development
♦ Participation in the March of the Living
♦ Judaic study and experiences
♦ Community service projects
♦ Athletic programs
Individuals can become a "Friend of BBYO" by first making an ongoing commitment to BBYO's Annual
Campaign, then by establishing an endowment commitment honoring the donor, their family, or in honor of
Endowment Campaign Chairs
or in memory of others. The endowment pledge may be payable over more than one year. Additional, more

United Way Honors Perry Teicher

United Way Community Services honored
Perry Teicher, Michigan Region AZA Aleph
Godol, with a Young Metro Volunteer Award
at its Celebrate Volunteers Luncheon, April
28, at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance
Center. "These honorees represent the
thousands of volunteers throughout Southeast
Michigan who, in their own special way, give
unselfishly to benefit the lives of others," said
Virgil Carr, President and CEO of
United Way Community Services.
Perry has been involved with
BBYO for four years. His active role
in the community has touched the
lives of many individuals in a variety
of ways. Perry views volunteering
not as a task or duty but as an
opportunity to give something to
others. A good example is the

weekly basketball program that he established
with JARC residents when he was Greenberg
AZA chapter aleph godol. The program was
recognized as the National BBYO Community
Service Program of the Year. Besides the
enormous amount of time locally that Perry
has put in as Regional Aleph Moreh last year
and Regional Aleph Godol this year, he has
also traveled twice to Bulgaria to help the
fledgling BBYO program there. One
of his most memorable projects
there was to help restore a Jewish
cemetery in Varna on the Black Sea.
Perry has also been involved in the
NCCJ American Arab and Jewish
Friends Organization and
volunteers on the West Bloomfield
High School Cultural Information
Advisory Council.
