FORD'S
LEGACY
A
s the Ford Motor Company cel-
ebrates its 100th anniversary
this week, it could leave Jews
with mixed emotions.
True, founder Henry Ford was a
blatant anti-Semite at home and sup-
porter of Adolf Hitler on the international
front. Yet, his company also paved the way
for many Jews to climb the ranks from
immigrant status to American success story.
No one can deny the impact of Ford the
company and Ford the man on the American
scene and on the world. But the Ford legacy,
as far as the Jewish community is concerned,
has been improved dramatically by recent gen-
erations of the Ford family.
All of these issues are brought together in a
compelling story by Ford retiree Bill Carroll
on page 14, and by our editorial on page 27.
