Portrait Of Bravery

heroic story from the Polish
underground is being told in
a multimedia theater piece
soon to be presented at three
Michigan locations.
Life in a jar — The irena Sendler
Story, which developed out of a
high-school history project in
Kansas, dramatizes the triumphs of a
non-Jewish social worker who saved
2,500 children during the
Holocaust.
Sendler's mission, going into the
Warsaw Ghetto and taking out chil-
dren for hiding in non-Jewish homes
and convents, will be explored 4 p.m.
Sunday, June 22, at Michigan State
University in East Lansing; 7:30 p.m.
Monday, June 23, in the School of
Management Auditorium at the
University of Michigan-Dearborn;
and 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at
Temple Israel in West Bloomfield.
Megan Stewart, Elizabeth Cambers
and Sabrina Coons are the high

A

school students who learned about
Sendler in a small article, developed a
huge project and appear in their own
presentation.
The tlute, who are not Jewish,
involved their community, visited
Sendler in her Polish home and have
brought the information around the
country,through live performances
and television appearances.
The jar in the title is significant in
two ways. Sendler kept the names
and locations of the children she res-
cued in a buried jar for identifica-
tion after the war. The students take
a jar with them to collect money for
Sendler, now in her 90s.
