AS A GRADUATE of the Culinary
Institute of America, one of the fur-
thest from one's mind is to eventually
open a small Jewish delicatessen.
But not for Steve Lombardi ... whose
chefing has mainly been around the
Jewish people ... Golden Mushroom,
Lark, Roman Terrace and local delis.
It's all his own and that means more
than being at the finest restaurant any-
where.
Steve's new spot, Al Di La Cafe &
Deli, is on Carrol Lake, corner of
Commerce Road, about a mile west of
Union Lake Road in Commerce
Township ... 2,000 square feet with 30
seats plus five leather sofas for folks to
sit at and relax ... while listening to
the jazz, too, on Friday and Saturday
nights.
AND THE JEAN BEAT goes on ...
as soon as Saturday, June 14 ... with its
14th annual clothing drive by Guys
N' Gals for the needy and homeless of
Oakland County.
Time is again 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. ...
when folks exchange their jeans (clean,
without holes) for a new pair at half
the retail price.
Also collected for the unfortunate
are other clothing, bedding, small fur-
niture, toys, etc. ... all making a fine
tax-deductible donation while helping
Oakland County's needy.
Last year, more than 500 pairs of
jeans and hundreds of other bags of
clothing and household items were
collected.
Clean out your closets, folks, and
bring the stuff to Guys N' Gals in
West Bloomfield's Orchard Mall, 15
Mile and Orchard Lake Road ... and
help a very worthy cause.
EIGHT COMMUNITY ITES
have their works on display in this
year's 56th annual Michigan Water
Color Society Exhibition ... and five
are among the 15 award-winners.
Donald Mendelson, Southfield, first
place; Paula Zaks, Huntington Woods,
second place; Linda Novetsky
Mendelson, Southfield, third place ...
and Nancy Raitt, Farmington Hills,
and Marilyn Blinder, Southfield.
Also with fine displays are Prudence
Bernstein, West Bloomfield; Barbara
Dorchen, Farmington Hills, and
Deborah Friedman, West Bloomfield.
The traveling show runs through
February ... in several sectors of the state.
