Paris/JTA — Hundreds of French Jews
and Muslims gathered in a Paris theater at
the launch of a joint campaign to support
the Middle East road map peace plan.
The event, titled "Words and Music
for Peace: Let's Be Zionists and Pro-
Palestinians," was organized by the
Union of Jewish Students in cooperation
with the newly formed Secular
Convention for Equality for French
Muslims.
"Until now, the Israeli-Palestinian con-
flict has been a major attraction for
extremists from all sides," Jewish student
leader Patrick Klugrnan said. People
"have to unite in order to offer a posi-
tion which brings them together rather
than divides them."
Who Wants To Be
A Millionaire?
Jerusalem/JTA — Some 5,000 Israelis
are millionaires.
According to figures released by
Merrill Lynch, 50 of them are multi-
millionaires with liquid assets exceeding
$30 million. Six are included on a list of
the richest people in the world.
Israeli Child:
Saddam Hussein
Jerusalem/JTA — Israel is allowing an
Israeli Arab couple to name their son
Saddam Hussein, after the ousted Iraqi
leader.
The special authorization was given
after the Interior Ministry branch in
Hadera refused to register the child's
name, on the grounds that it was dam-
aging to public sentiment, Israel Radio
reported.
Corps Urges
Visits To Israel
New York/JTA — A volunteer corps is
being formed to encourage tourism to
Israel.
The goal of the venture, a joint proj-
ect of the Orthodox Union and Israel's
Tourism Ministry, is to organize a team
of people who will promote tourism to
Israel in their home communities. As
part of the program, volunteers will col-
lect pledge cards during the High
Holidays that will commit people to
visit Israel during the coming year.
