performed many mitzvot throughout
the year, including a mitzvah day

Alex Brett Simmons
will be called to the
Torah on the occasion
of his bar mitzvah on
Friday, June 6, at
Temple Israel. His par-
ents are Karen and
Keith Simmons and
his sister is Ashley. His
excited grandparents are Elaine
Multer, William Simmons and Burton
Silberstein. He is also the grandchild
of the late Carole Silberstein. His
proud great-grandmother is Pauline
Eisenberg.
Alex is an honor student at Orchard
Lake Middle School in West
Bloomfield. His interests are ice hock-
ey, tennis, basketball, in-line hockey,
football, golf and summers at Camp
Walden in Cheboygan. He found it
especially meaningful to volunteer at
Yad Ezra in Berkley as part of his
mitzvah projects.

Susanna Rachel Fried
read from the Torah
and celebrated her bat
mitzvah on Saturday,
May 31, in Columbus,
Ohio. She was previ-
ously called to the
Torah as a bat mitzvah
on May 3 at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek Southfield.
Susanna is the daughter of Gigi and
Sam Fried of Bexley, Ohio, and is the
sister of Molly, Jake, Orly and Eva.
Sharing in her simchah was her grand-
father Sol Panush of Farmington Hills
and her grandmother Helen Fried of
Cleveland, Ohio. Susanna is also the
granddaughter of the late Sylvia
Panush and the late Zoltan Fried.
Susanna is an honor student at the
Columbus Jewish Day School. She
enjoys her family as well as fencing,
knitting, musical theater, design and
spending her summers at Blue Star
Camps in North Carolina.
