The New Leaders Project (NLP)
of the Jewish Community Council
of Metropolitan Detroit held a grad-
uation reception May 28 for the 15
young Jewish adults who participat-
ed in the yearlong leadership pro
gram.
The event was held at the home
of Elaine and Eugene Driker in
Detroit. Funds raised honoring
Elaine as the 2002 Activist of the
Year were used to support the NLP
program.
The 15 graduates met two to
three times a month from October
to May in sessions that covered a
diverse group of topics. Each NLP
participant had a personal lay leader
as a mentor who accompanied him
or her to one of their committee or
board meetings.

professionals and lay leaders of the

Jewish community. NLP partici-
pants were informed about the
structure of the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit and its affiliat-
ed agencies, lay leadership opportu-
unities, tikkun olam (repair of the
world) programs and agencies,
Michigan politics and cultural ini-
tiatives in Detroit.
The NLP participants also worked
on T.H.E. Friends of Literacy Used
Book Sale as a group service project.

At the Diamond Trustee-Prime Minister's Club Tribute reception honor-
