Even though he ran an Army camp newspaper in the Baffin Islands during the Korean War rather than doing combat, he was proud he had served his country. He wore his JWV cap dutifully over his bald head, ate breakfast nearly every morning with JWV buddies and sold bright red pop- pies every year to raise money for hospital visits. Like Holocaust survivors, Jewish War Veterans are a dwindling group. Like Holocaust survivors, they must not be forgotten. That's why the new JWV exhibit at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield is so important (see page 12). The well-designed, well-researched exhibit is a monument to the courageous veterans from Michigan who served our country This exhibit will help us remember them. Proud of our freedom fighters, Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit President Lawrence Jackier said: "Because they were there, we are able to stand here and celebrate their awesome accomplishments.
