At 6-feet 6-inches tall and weighing
well over 200 pounds, Winfield was
the picture of a menacing and intimi-
dating Goliath ... Yet few players had
the largesse to be involved with fans,
ownership, the press and local com-
munity as much as Winfield.
Another first by MJSF is having this
year's tennis portion as a three-day thing
... First and second rounds will be
Saturday, June 7 ... round robin Sunday,
June 8 ... both at Detroit Tennis and
Squash Club on Drake ... and finals at
Tam O'Shanter, Monday, June 9.
The evening banquet program is set
for 7:15 p.m., emceed by sportscaster
Jeremy Schaap. A new Erhard BMW
will again be raffled off ... at 6:30
p.m., during the cocktail hour and
dinner buffet from 4:30-7 p.m.

Rita Geiringer ... "No doubt that peo-
ple have tasted something many times
that is low fat or low sodium and
tastes good. So good that they find
themselves wondering if it was too
good to be true.
"This is what I experienced the first
time I tried the lactose-free pizza at
Buddy's Pizza. I had ordered the veg-
gie pizza without lactose and was
frankly surprised at how good it was.
"So I invited some friends with the
same intolerance as me to try a taste
test of other kinds of lactose-free piz-
zas at Buddy's.
"We each ordered a different style of
lactose-free pizza and let everyone try a
piece of our own. After the first few
bites we looked at each other in amaze-
ment. They were all delicious! We had
to have the manager assure us that they
hadn't given us regular cheese pizzas!"
JAMBALAYA STREET Festival will
take over the streets of Pontiac Friday,
May 30, through Sunday, June 1 ...

Steward in an attempt to bring boxing
back to Detroit.

Powerhouse Boxing Team ... putting on
the card June 27 at Joe Louis Arena.
Norm and Will are co-founders of
Powerhouse Gym, with both also its
present executive officers ... Steward
is the trainer of Lennox Lewis, world
heavyweight boxing champion ...
