throughout the world, so we
planned a family Shabbat dinner."
In the Commerce-Walled Lake
community where Greenberg says
many women do not light Shabbat
candles on a weekly basis, she hopes
those who attend will continue the
tradition in their own homes.
"All the women and girls who join
us May 30 will light candles at the
same time, in the same room," she
said. "We will give instructions and
say the blessing together with their
families surrounding them in the
peaceful atmosphere of Shabbat. We
will explain why lighting candles
brings peace into the home and
encourages thoughts of peace in the
world."
The evening also has another
focus. It is being held in honor of

Israel, the combined spiritual energy of
millions of women and girls can make
miracles happen."

"The girls of Beis Chaya Mushka
Girls High School in Oak Park have
been giving out brochures, along
with candles and candlesticks, out-
side area supermarkets."
Even the young children and
grandchildren of the emissaries
involved in the campaign are lending
a hand, helping to package 700 can-
dle and brochure kits.
At the Chabad Jewish Center of
Commerce-Walled Lake, women not
only have been encouraged to light
candles on May 30, but have been
invited to the home of the syna-
gogue's directors, Rabbi Schneor and
Estie Greenberg, for a group light-
ing.
"We are expecting around 30
women and girls to light candles in
our home — which is also our shul,"
Estie Greenberg said. "We want to
make sure to get as many Jewish
