Jewish Women's Foundation
to honor longtime leader
Penny Blumenstein.

I

n celebration of the power of
women to create positive change
through philanthropy, the Jewish
Women's Foundation of
Metropolitan Detroit will hold its first
"Women Lighting the Way" luncheon on
Wednesday, June 11, at noon at the
Townsend Hotel in Birmingham.
Penny Blumenstein will be honored as
Federation's "first lady lighting the way."
"When women direct their creativity,
vision and collective
support into philan-
thropy, there's no
limit to what they can
do," said current and
founding chair
Margot Halperin.
"Though we are a
young foundation just
completing our third
Blumenstein
grant cycle this sum-
mer, I am continually
amazed with what
we've been able to achieve over such a
short period of time."
The Jewish Women's Foundation, a
grant-making and education organization
dedicated to expanding opportunities for
Jewish women and girls, has grown to
109 members.
A philanthropist,
activist, communal
leader and Israel advo-
cate, Blumenstein was
the first woman presi-
dent of the Jewish
Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit
(1998-2001). She
Myers
serves on the boards
of New Detroit,
Henry Ford Health
Systems, Detroit Symphony Orchestra
and United Way.
Keynote speaker will be Dee Dee
Myers, first woman and youngest person
to serve as White House press secretary.
She served in the Clinton administration.
Since leaving the White House, she has
worked as a political analyst, commenta-
tor and writer. She's a contributing editor
to Vanity Fair and a consultant to the
NBC television drama, The West Wing.
Luncheon tickets are $100. Proceeds
will help fulfill the goals of the Jewish
Women's Foundation. Reservations are
