Affording the best is not the Question... finding the best is... Stoorman, Teicher Win NCJW Awards S Kira Stoorman and Perry Teicher took the top prizes May 18 at the 58th annual Jewish Youth Awards ceremony held at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield. Nineteen high school seniors entered the competition sponsored by the National Council of Jewish Women, Greater Detroit Section. "We could have had 19 winners; these kids were so phenomenal. But the judges simply could not choose between these two," said Bobbie Patt, co-chair with Lois Granader. The program, supported by Betty and Grant Silverfarb, requires an aca- demic 3.0 average; letters of recom- mendation from rabbis, principals or teachers; involvement in the Jewish and secular communities; an interview with the judges; and an essay. This year's topic was "The Challenge of Being Jewish in Today's World of Escalating Anti-Semitism." Stoorman, sponsored by Congregation T'Chiyah, wrote about her experience on the March of the Living during her sophomore year. Teicher, sponsored by Adat Shalom Synagogue and the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization (BBYO), wrote about his two trips to interact with Bulgaria's Jewish community.
