T

he Anti-Defamation League
(ADL) has announced the
recipients of its 2003 Daniel
R. Ginsberg Leadership Award,
which recognizes outstanding indi-
viduals for their leadership in the
fight against anti-Semitism, racism
and all forms of prejudice.
The annual award presentation was
held April 28 at the ADL Shana Glass
National Leadership Conference, a
gathering of nearly 500 Jewish corn-
munity leaders in
Washington, D.C.
Among the seven
national winners was
Daniel M. Levy, 44, of
West Bloomfield, an
assistant state attorney
general who has been
Levy
involved in the region's
civil rights and legisla-
tive affairs committees.
He has represented ADL on the State
of Michigan Bias-Crime Response
Task Force and the Michigan Alliance
Against Hate Crimes.
"Dan has been a tireless advocate
in the civil rights arena at work and
at the ADL," said Betsy Kellman,
ADL-Michigan Region director.
"We are delighted to thank him
nationally."
Levy said, "Receiving an award
from people one respects and
admires as much as I do — ADL
leadership is nothing short of
incredible. At the same time, I know
I would never have been noticed
were I not also standing on the
shoulders of so many others."
Other Ginsberg honorees include
Michael Asch of New York, Jeffrey A.
Dretler of Boston, Sheryl Goodman
of Denver, Burton Manne of
Houston, Michael Rothstein of
Chicago and Uri Vaknin of Atlanta.
"This group of distinguished lead-
ers has shown a profound commit-
ment to the goals of fighting anti-
Semitism and prejudice in their
communities," Kellman said.
The award is named in honor of the
late Daniel R. Ginsberg, a former
New York regional board chairman
and ADL national commissioner.
