On Energy
Jerusalem/JTA — Israel and the
Palestinian Authority have agreed to
cooperate in areas of energy and infra-
structure. The Israeli and Palestinian
infrastructure ministers agreed to create a
mechanism for cooperation together
with the European Union.
The two ministers met this week at a
conference of Mediterranean and
European energy and infrastructure min-
isters in Athens, according to a statement
from the office of Israeli Infrastructure
Minister Yosef Paritzky.

Bar Mitzvah
Melbourne/JTA — An 89-year-old man
in Australia has celebrated his bar mitz-
vah. Morris Wellins was orphaned as a
young boy in his native Glasgow and was
brought up by his sister, living in poverty
with no formal Jewish education At age
41 he moved with his wife and three
children from Scotland to Melbourne.
Morris, who had not been inside a
synagogue for 50 years, was persuaded by
local Rabbi Nir Gurevitch to celebrate
his bar mitzvah at the Gold Coast
Hebrew Congregation. "I thought it was
time to do the right thing after all those
years," Morris said.

Palestinians Rally
Against Hauras
Gaza/JTA — Hundreds of Palestinians
in a Gaza Strip town demonstrated
against Hamas on Tuesday for firing
rockets on Israel.
Hamas terrorists have used Beit
Hanoun as a launching pad for rocket
attacks on Israeli towns in the Negev,
prompting harsh Israeli retaliation. The
protests occurred shortly after Israeli
troops pulled out of the town, according
to the Jerusalem Post.
"We've had enough because people
have paid a heavy price," a farmer told the
Post.
