show based on a true story about
Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a cross-
dressing German eccentric in wartime
Berlin, who survived both the Nazis
and the ensuing Communist regime.
Written by Doug Wright, who also
wrote the screenplay for the film
Quills, the production is directed by
Moises Kaufman, the South
American-born Jewish founder and
artistic director of New York City's
Tectonic Theater Project, notable for
its creation of The Laramie Project,
about murdered gay college student
Matthew Shepard. Through June 8th.

Meshugahs based on a novel by Isaac
Bashevis Singer, is a tragicomic por-
trait of a community of Jewish émi-
grés, set in New York in the 1950s.
Emily Mann adapted the novel for
the stage. Her first play, Anulla: An
Autobiography, was based on memories
of a survivor of the Treblinka concen-
tration camp. She also wrote Having
Our Say, a stage version of the book
with the same name by black cente-
narians Sarah and Bessie Delaney.
