Gweh jemiar

Peabody Hotel and has performed the
national anthem for the Orlando
Magic basketball team and the Solar
Bears hockey team.
"If I had tried to plan all of this, it
never would have worked," says
Robuck, cantor at Congregation Ohev
Shalom in Orlando. "I wrote some-
thing for the three to sing during the
service in 1997, and then they were
invited to do a program for the sister-
hood. They kept getting more
requests, and the trio just took off."
Robuck continues to write some of
the music for the group and appears at
half their concerts, which are sched-
uled about every four weeks. When
he's not able to join them, Visions uses
electronic recordings based on their
three CDs. The first album, Living the
Dream, raised funds for their
Conservative synagogue.
One of their most exciting bookings
recently came through the Internet.
They were invited to entertain in cele-
bration of a bat mitzvah in Brazil after
the honoree's dad read about Visions
on the Web. The trio's moms; who
help with managing their engage-
ments, joined their daughters for their
first performance outside the U.S.
"The trip," says the cantor, "was
muy bueno (Spanish for "very good").
We sang at Friday night services, and
the people were very gracious."
As the trio tours the country, mem-
bers are very conscientious about put-
ting school assignments ahead of the
stage. They study on planes and in
hotel rooms, always leaving time to
gab about their experiences away from
each other.
"This has been a really smooth rela-
tionship," says Turner, who has written
some lyrics for the trio. "Our goal is to
perform whatever sounds best, and we
work hard at planning ahead for all
our deadlines."
When Robuck works with the trio,
the vocalists have more flexibility. Live
accompaniment allows them to change
their program. When he's not with the
vocalists, they have to stick to the
order and arrangements of the record-
ed tracks.
"These young women are tremen-
dous role models for Jewish teens," the
cantor says. "They're hip kids singing
about Jewish spiritual values."

Visions will perform 3 p.m.

El, 7400 Telegraph Road, in
Bloomfield Township. $10/$8
