Staff Writer Diana Lieberman described how the JAMD moved from dream to reality. She gave due credit to some of the important ingredients to our ongoing growth: a caring and dynamic faculty, ISACS accreditation, national enthusiasm for the day high school movement, continued financial support, atten- tion from PEJE and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, to name a few. But, of course, the real list of cred- its is quite long. We would never have received the $750,000 matching grant from Federation, for example, had the founding board not raised $250,000 from among themselves to merit the match. The school's finan- cial stability would not have been boosted if it were not for the Schostak Millennium gift, which was the first major endowment to the Jewish Academy. The school would never have attracted a record number of pio- neering students — no matter what the funding — without parents who trusted the administration to attract a superb staff and develop a top- notch curriculum. Parents might never have taken that first step if it hadn't been for the encouragement of rabbis, cantors, educational directors, Federation and other professionals who have credibility in Detroit. And what continues to attract more and more students to the JAMD is one other factor: the 112 shining stars that are currently enrolled here. They are articulate, inspiring and energetic mentshes. They are leading our community to even greater heights and will con- stitute a new generation of critical thinkers, confident leaders, and com- mitted Jews that will make all of us proud.
