• hen fashion designer Dana Buchman designs clothing, she thinks of real women.
"I just don't design clothes for pencil-thin women," said Buchman. Buchman
made a personal appearance at the Friends of Oakland Family Services spring
luncheon and fashion show April 3, at Saks Fifth Avenue in Troy. "My clothes
are meant to be worn from petites to plus sizes," she added. Buchman painted a palette of
tropical themes, diaphanous fabrics and flirty denims in the spring 2003 collection. Rich colors
and stunning textures were mainstays. She paired a shirred paprika top with a safari garden-
print pant and an embroidered chrysanthemum jacket with a black-satin Aphrodite pant.
According to Buchman, comfort is key while trying to design clothing for all facets of a
woman's life — career, motherhood, charity work and evening wear. And femininity definitely
rules.
"I design clothes to make women feel beautiful."
