Eats, Drinks and Giveaways!

his prom issue marks our fourth anniversary of Style at
the Jewish News. What excitement we had this year at
our photo shoot -- no lights, no power, but lots of fun
thanks to our models Brandon Barnett, Joey DeLisio,
Ali Hurwitz, Heather Kurwin, Katie Schwartz and Lauren
Studenberg.
Associate editor Linda Bachrack, art director Debbie Schultz
and photographer Paul Bednarski all captured these teens as they
transformed from Cinderellas to Prince Charmings.
Speaking about fashion, I had the opportunity to attend the
2003 Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show benefit for Friends of
Oakland Family Services. The Friends of Oakland Family Services
give their time and talent working on volunteer projects and fund-
raising events to help rebuild lives in our area. Fashion designer
Dana Buchman made a special appearance at this stellar event. We
are together in the photograph, shown, and all the "Friends" were
impressed with Buchman's down-to-earth approach to fashion and
life.
Our former intern, Jodie Kaufman, who will be a University of
Michigan graduate when this article appears, took time out from
her hectic schedule to interview student Joshua Schwadron.
Schwadron is a stylish, young man who recently won a magazine
award and is involved with several Jewish organizations.
In our art column, our current intern, KenNath Marie Watkins,
profiles Ellen Rontal. Rontal, a former art gallery owner, paints
enchanting folk-art portraits of children. Writer Marj Levin show-
cases Irwin Elson, a collector of toy soldiers. His army is quite
impressive.
Since prom time is here, perhaps we can look forward to a warm
and sunny summer. (I think we all have had enough of ice storms
and power failures — I even lost power during our Passover seder.)
So, think June picnics and weddings. We'll show you a fabulous
wedding in our next issue.

Sincerely,
