The public is invited to join lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender people, their families and friends, to celebrate the beginning of 2003 Pride Week in Michigan. The event is sponsored by the Interfaith LGBT Coalition. The service will be followed by a reception and light refreshments. "Unity in Spirit: People of Faith" is the theme of this year's event. Pride Month in Michigan will kick off with five musical presentations featuring three gospel choirs, a gifted soloist and a Hebrew niggun, or prayer melody, by various faith communities. Each year, a free-will offering is taken to-help support local non-profits. This year the recipients of the free-will offer- ing will be the Ruth Ellis Center serving lesbian, gay, bisexual and questioning youth; and Simon House, a shelter for HIV positive, battered women and their children. Executive Director Ona Harris of Simon House and Director of Outreach Services Imani Williams of Ruth Ellis Center will speak briefly about the valu- able services provided by their organiza- tions. The Interfaith LGBT Pride Coalition sponsors are: Congregation Shir Tikvah, Dignity Detroit, Full Truth Fellowship of Christ, Metropolitan Community Church of Detroit, Michigan Jewish AIDS Coalition, Praise Fellowship.
